All versions of Microsoft Windows supportedWhat is Port Explorer?
Port Explorer allows you to see all the open network ports/sockets on your system and which programs own them. Along with this ability it also has many tools including a packet sniffer, bandwidth throttling and country detection to name just a few. Port Explorer has an intuitive interface that allows you to quickly see all the network activity your computer is involved in. Port Explorer makes analysing your network easier than ever, and includes many tools for advanced network activities.
For a long time Port Explorer has been the leading program of its type. This article by Roger Grimes (author of Malicious Mobile Code) compares 11 similar programs, and you won't be surprised that Port Explorer came out on top! Port Explorer is also the most accurate program of its type, and the only one which supports Windows 95 and Windows 98 - not just the modern operating systems!
Why do I need it?
Only Port Explorer allows you to see and have complete control over all of the network sockets on your system, immediately letting you know which processes are behind which ports/sockets. If you see a socket you don't like you can close it. If you see a socket you're suspicious about, you can listen in on the data it sends/receives (a technique often referred to as packet sniffing). A variety of related built-in tools also provide further analysis and testing capabilities.
Is it easy to use?
VERY! Port Explorer has an intuitive graphical interface and although one of the most powerful programs of its kind it is also one of the easiest to use. There's even a special 8-page feature on Port Explorer in the 'Rootkits For Dummies' book by Larry Stevenson and Nancy Altholz - here's a small excerpt!
Can I try it for free?
Absolutely, we encourage you to take advantage of the fully-functional FREE 30-day trial version which can be obtained at the Download page, so you can test and see for yourself just how powerful yet easy to use Port Explorer is. Port Explorer is very inexpensive, but even if you don't decide to purchase it you've lost nothing and still gained a month of free use of the program!
